Nepali students going abroad for studies took with them Rs 112.44 billion in foreign currency during the first 10 months of the fiscal year, as per data from Nepal Rastra Bank.
In the same period last fiscal year, the amount spent on education abroad stood at Rs 104 billion. Along with education, the total foreign currency outflow for both studies and outbound tourism reached Rs 185.03 billion—an increase of 17.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, tourists visiting Nepal spent Rs 75.71 billion during the same 10-month period, up from Rs 69.73 billion last year.
The balance of payments in the service account shows a deficit, as the outflow under this category exceeds the inflow. By the end of Baisakh, Nepal’s service account recorded a deficit of Rs 86.53 billion, compared to a deficit of Rs 50.31 billion during the same period last fiscal year.
