RPP candidate killed in Kalikot police firing

Kalikot, May 15

A man, who was injured in a police firing during a clash with cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN Maoist on Sunday, died on Monday.

Dhanrup Batala, ward chairperson candidate from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in Naraharinath Rural Municipality-6, died after a helicopter could not be landed owing to incessant rainfall, Chief District Officer Giridhari  Subedi informed.

The Maoist outfit had snatched ballot boxes being ferried from the local Nandadevi Secondary School, forcing security personnel to open fire.

Meanwhile, three persons injured in the incident have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.

Five security personnel have also sustained injuries in the incident.

The Election Commission has already decided to cancel yesterday’s voting and redo the poll at the voting centre.
