RJPN central leader joins UML on nomination day

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli welcomes RJPN leader Anita Yadav to his party, in Kathmandu, on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 18

A central leader of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, a major Madhesh-centric force, has defected the party to join the main opposition CPN-UML on Sunday, the day fixed by the Election Commission to file candidacy nominations for the second phase of local level elections on June 28.

RJPN treasurer Anita Yadav was welcomed by the UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli amidst a special function at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi of Kathmandu.

Speaking at the function, Oli said Yadav’s entry to the UML was an answer to rumours spread against the party in the Terai-Madhesh region.

Anita is the widow of Shree Krishna Yadav, one of the founders of the Terai Madhesh Democratic Party. After Shree Krishna’s death in a road accident in 2010, Anita became active in the TMDP, which later merged with other Madhesh-centric parties to form the RJPN.

She had contested the 2013 Constituent Assembly elections in Dhunusha-5 to get defeated by Nepali Congress candidate Chandra Mohan Yadav.
