Managing Director of Nepal Airlines Corporation, the national flag carrier of the country, Sugat Ratna Kansakar, retired last week.

After retirement, Kansakar has stated that he is not involved in any irregularities in the controversial purchase of two wide body aircraft in 2018, and said he is happy with what he did.

“Maybe the things will be clear later,” Kansakar tells Onlinekhabar, “But, I am satisfied with my job in the tenure.”

Earlier, Public Accounts Committee in the House of Representatives had named Kansakar as the kingpin of irregularities in the purchase.

“There is a thought in Nepal that you can finish someone once you label them corrupt, perhaps because the country is troubled by corruption scandals,” he says, “I don’t think it will be in the country’s favour to tarnish anyone’s image.”

While maintaining that he does not comment further about the issue as public bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority are probing the issue, he claims, he laid foundation for the NAC during his second tenure in the Corporation.

“The Corporation does not need to turn back now. It can become a competitive company in the global market by adding new planes.”
