260 rescued from human trafficking at Birgunj border this year

Birgunj (Parsa), December 24

In the past 12 months, a total of 260 individuals have been rescued from human trafficking at the Birgunj border crossing.

Among them, 257 were women and girls, while the remaining three were young boys. These rescues were made possible through the help of Maiti Nepal, say officials.

Those rescued came from Parsa, Sarlahi, Dhanusha and Mahottari districts in Madhesh Province and Jhapa in Koshi Province.

Maiti Nepal, Ashish Social Service Nepal, Aafanta Nepal, Tiny Hand Nepal, and Nepal Police collaborate on surveillance efforts to combat potential human trafficking at the Birgunj border along the Nepal-India border.

Despite these joint initiatives, local residents are urging authorities to enhance security surveillance at the Bhishwa and Bhangaha points.
