Remand hearing in progress at Kathmandu District Court

Kathmandu, March 29

Former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak has been brought to the Kathmandu District Court for an extension of his remand. A petition related to the remand will be presented before Judge Anand Kumar Shrestha at Bench No. 14. Judge Shrestha has already arrived at the court.

Lawyers representing Lekhak have informed that they will appear and argue the case. However, Judge Shrestha has asked them to wait for some time as the police and the Office of the Government Attorney have not yet submitted the required case files.

Lekhak is currently being held in the registrar’s office of the Kathmandu District Court. Security has been tightened following reports that supporters may stage protests outside the court. A large number of personnel from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have been deployed.

Meanwhile, former Attorney General Ramesh Badal stated that it is difficult to physically present former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in court due to his poor health condition. According to Badal, Oli will instead be presented before the judge through video conferencing.

A large number of lawyers have gathered at the court to argue and observe the hearing, particularly on whether Lekhak and Oli should be kept in custody.
