Redmi Note 13 Pro: Will this solid mid-range compete with the best in the market?

The successor to the Redmi Note 12 Pro from last year, the Redmi Note 13 Pro has been unveiled alongside the Redmi Note 13 and the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. The smartphone debuts the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. The smartphone is the mid-range option in the Note 13 series. The design is slightly different and comes with some upgrades on its camera.

The Redmi Note series is very popular in Nepal in the mid-range price segment. Last year’s Redmi Note 12 Pro did pretty well in the market. Let us see what the smartphone offers.

Design and display

The design of the Redmi Note 13 Pro is different compared to the Note 12 Pro. The camera module size has been enlarged, with distinct protrusions for both the module and camera sensors. The back is flat, complemented by flat frames and subtly curved edges.

The camera module is squircle in shape and has a shiny matte finish. The colours are dual-tone with a shiny matte finish. The front has a hole punch cutout with the side bezels relatively thin whereas the top and the chin are a bit thick.

The Redmi Note 13 Pro has an OLED display measuring 6.67 inches, offering a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 (1.5K). This display type supports a wide range of colours with its 12-bit colour display and achieves a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. It has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, with a quick touch sampling rate of up to 2,160Hz. The screen is optimised for eye comfort with features like high-frequency PWM dimming, DCI-P3 100 per cent wide colour gamut, and automatic brightness adjustments.

Additionally, it has Dolby Vision which enhances the overall viewing experience. The display also has various features such as integrating under-screen fingerprint recognition, dark light unlock, heart rate detection, and various TÜV Rheinland certifications for reduced blue light exposure, flicker-free usage, and rhythm-friendly display.

Performance and storage

The Redmi Note 13 Pro runs on a recently launched Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset built on a 4nm architecture. Its octa-core CPU consists of four high-performance cores clocked at 2.40 GHz and four efficiency cores running at 1.95 GHz, providing a balance of power and energy efficiency. The graphics are handled by Adreno 710, enhancing graphical performance. It operates on Android 13 with MIUI 14.

The Note 13 Pro is available in three different RAM options; 8 GB, 12 GB and 16 GB. But 16 GB might not be available in Nepal. The phone comes with three storage options; 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. But again 512 GB might not be available in Nepal.

Camera

The Redmi Note 13 Pro has a 200MP main rear camera using a Samsung HP3 flagship sensor, providing remarkable clarity with a large 1/1.4″ sensor and 2.24μm fused pixels. For steady shots OIS (optical image stabilization) and EIS (electronic image stabilization) are available. The 7P lens and f/1.65 large aperture further enhance its capabilities in different lighting conditions. It also has an ALD anti-glare coating and SuperQPD autofocus for quick and sharp focusing. The other two cameras are an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro lens. Additionally, it’s equipped with the Xiaomi imaging brain and high-pixel engine.

The rear camera has features such as a film camera, film frame, magic sky change, video super anti-shake, privacy protection watermark, time-lapse macro, time-lapse photography, peaking focus, AI beauty, tilt-shift effect, microfilm, long exposure, 4K video, dynamic photos, voice subtitles, voice-controlled photography, timed continuous shooting, exposure feedback, ID card copy mode, intelligent composition and album beauty. It can record 4k videos at 30fps, 1,080p videos at 30/60fps and 720p videos at 30fps.

For selfies, the Redmi Note 13 Pro has a 16MP front camera. It has features such as a soft halo ring, AI beauty, AI watermark, timed continuous shooting, night scene mode, dynamic photo, face recognition, voice-controlled photo, gesture photo and 1,080p video capture at 30fps. The front camera is capable of capturing 1080p video at 30/60fps and 720p video at 30fps.

Battery and Others

The Redmi Note 13 Pro is powered by a large 5,100mAh (typical capacity) battery, delivering power for extended usage. For charging, it supports 67W wired fast charging.

For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 4, and 802.11a/b/g standards, for internet connection whereas Bluetooth 5.2 enables wireless communication with other devices. In terms of SIM capabilities, it features dual SIM 5G support, utilizing Nano-SIM cards and allowing for dual standby functionality.

The audio experience is enhanced with stereo dual speakers. As for the sensors the smartphone is equipped with many including an ultrasonic distance sensor, ambient light sensor, acceleration sensor, electronic compass, gyroscope, infrared remote control, and an X-axis linear motor for improved functionality. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor for security and unlocking the smartphone.

In Nepal, the Redmi Note 13 Pro is expected to be priced at Rs 34,000 for the 8/128GB variant, Rs 36,000 for the 8/256GB variant, and Rs 40,000 for the 12/256GB variant.
