Some lawmakers from the CPN-UML, speaking at the Parliament meeting on Tuesday, urged the government to recognise Push 27, birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, as National Unity Day and declare it a public holiday.

Speaking at the zero hour, UML lawmakers urged the government to declare Push 27 a holiday by recognising the contributions of King Prithvi to the creation of modern Nepal.

UML lawmakers Prakash Jwala, Purushottam Poudel and others pointed that Nepalis should not forget the contribution of the king. Lawmaker Jwala said: Prithvi Narayan Shah unified unified Nepal and it’s not a crime to remember him. It is the duty of the state to recognise his contribution and declare Push 27 a public holiday.

Some lawmakers from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Nepali Congress also demanded that the government recognise Push 27 as a National Unity Day and declare it a holiday.
