RAW chief meets Nepal PM ‘to discuss bilateral issues’

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, October 22

Amid various speculations, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s secretariat has confirmed that he met Indian foreign intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)’s chief Samanta Goel in Kathmandu on Wednesday night.

Whereas any official agency was yet to reveal anything about the meeting, media had reported on Wednesday and Thursday that Goel was in Kathmandu to meet PM Oli and some of his predecessors.

Two former PMs representing Oli’s Nepal Communist Party–Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal–have refuted the report of their meeting with Goel. However, Oli’s secretariat confirmed the meeting, saying it was a ‘courtesy call’. Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa says Goel had gone to Oli’s residence in Baluwatar for the meeting last night.

“During the meeting, he [Goel] expressed his opinions regarding not letting the Nepal-India friendly ties get disturbed, solving various problems through talks and continuing bilateral cooperation,” a brief press note issued by Thapa on Thursday morning reads.

Goel had arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening and returned to New Delhi on Thursday morning, according to reports.
