KP Sharma Oli sworn in as Nepal’s Prime Minister

Kathmandu, July 15

KP Sharma Oli has officially taken the oath of office as Nepal’s new Prime Minister. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas, where President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath.

President Paudel appointed Oli as Prime Minister on Sunday evening, following the expiry of the deadline for submitting claims for the position. Oli’s appointment is in accordance with Article 76(2) of the Nepali Constitution.

The political shift comes after Pushpa Kamal Dahal after losing a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on July 12. Consequently, Dahal was relieved from his duties as Prime Minister. On the same day, President Paudel called for claims to be submitted for the Prime Ministerial position within two days. Oli, the Chairman of the UML, claimed the support of MPs from various parties, including the Nepali Congress.

In his new role, Prime Minister Oli is already preparing to expand the Council of Ministers, marking the beginning of his new term in office.
