Rautahat priest murder: Two arrested

Priest Shree Ram Sah was murdered in Madhav Narayan municipality of Rautahat, on August 19, 2020.

Kathmandu, August 31

Two persons have been arrested on the charge of murdering a priest in Rautahat of southern Nepal on August 19.

Shree Ram Sah, the priest of the local Hanuman Temple in Khesrahiya, Madhav Narayan municipality-2 of the district, was fatally shot at by unidentified persons when he was preparing for dinner on August 19.

Investigating into the case, the police in the district arrested Ram Naresh Patel and Bal Kumar Patel, residents of Dewahi Gonahi municipality of the district, on Monday. They were arrested from the Indian state of Bihar with the support of Indian Police.

The arrestees, however, have not accepted their involvement in the crime yet.

Police have also identified Sheikh Narullah, Rajendra Patel, Kahil Patel and Ram Prabesh Patel also as suspects. They are on the run currently. Sheikh Narullah is the chairman of the ward 1 of Dewahi Gonahi.

Further investigation into the case is still underway.

The murder had sparked protests in various parts of the country, forcing the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue a circular to the district agencies to suppress the demonstrations.
