Kathmandu, September 3
Police in Balaju area of Kathmandu on Wednesday morning arrested an 18-year-old boy in possession of five kilogram gold.
During preliminary investigation, the law enforcers found that Sher Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Thaman, Gosainkunda-9 of Rasuwa district, had agreed to work as a mule after the smuggler assured that he/she would pay his college bills for the crime.
Tamang had carried five one-kilogram gold bars around his waist while travelling on a passenger bus to the capital.
In addition to the ‘scholarship’, the smuggler had assured Tamang of giving Rs 50,000 for carrying one kilo of precious yellow metal.
Police, however, are yet to name the alleged smuggler.
The investigators claim the smuggler had wanted his/her mule to ride on a passenger bus as police have tightened security checks on motorcycles and private vehicles. However, he was nabbed during a police ambush.
