Kathmandu, August 26
Flooding in Rasuwa on Wednesday has damaged several power plants and transmission structures of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), affecting electricity supply in Rasuwa and surrounding areas, the authority said.
According to the NEA, the flood damaged the Rasuwagadhi, Chilime and Trishuli-3A hydropower plants, as well as the 220 kV substation at the Trishuli-3B hub. The Trishuli and Devighat hydropower plants and various distribution structures have also been affected.
The NEA said electricity supply has been disrupted in some areas after damage to infrastructure related to power generation, transmission and distribution. It said it is making every possible effort to restore regular supply and urged consumers to remain patient until the service is restored.
Preliminary information indicates that the flood has also caused significant damage to physical infrastructure, including houses, roads and bridges. A detailed assessment of the damage is currently underway.
The NEA has urged all relevant agencies to mobilise immediately and effectively for rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas.
As the risk of flooding remains, the authority has urged members of the public and NEA employees in river and stream corridors, riverbank areas and other vulnerable locations to remain highly alert. It has also urged people not to believe unverified reports or rumours and to rely only on official information.
Rasuwa has previously suffered major damage to hydropower projects and transmission infrastructure due to floods. The latest flooding has again affected energy infrastructure, raising concerns about disruptions across the power generation, transmission and distribution system.
