Kathmandu, October 7
Relief materials have been provided to 60 flood-affected households at Dandagaun of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-2 in Rasuwa.
The materials were distributed through the Integrated Humanitarian and Early Recovery Programme with support from Start Fund Nepal, according to Lubh Raj Neupane, executive director of Rural-Oriented Youth Movement (ROYM) Nepal.
Neupane said the assistance was aimed at providing immediate support to single-woman households affected by the Bhotekoshi flood and those at high risk. Winter essentials, drinking water and sanitation materials were distributed in the first phase.
Relief materials will also be distributed in wards 1 and 5 of the rural municipality next week, he said.
ROYM Nepal has also been facilitating community kitchens at three locations in Rasuwa and Nuwakot for the past month with financial support from UN Women. The kitchens provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner to flood-affected and displaced families.
According to Goma Bista, administrative and financial assistant at ROYM Nepal, disaster-affected families have also been provided employment opportunities at the community kitchens in coordination with ward offices.
The organisation plans to provide financial assistance to at least 300 households to support their livelihoods. It is also preparing to distribute blankets, quilts, thermals, thermoses and hot-water bags to 1,000 households ahead of winter.
ROYM Nepal is also repairing flood-damaged water supply pipelines in Bidur Municipality of Nuwakot and Uttargaya Rural Municipality of Rasuwa.
