The chief of a local government in Ramechhap of the Bagmati province has been arrested on the charge of holding a local user committee leader hostage.

DSP Basanta Pathak, the chief of the Ramechhap District Police Office, says Govinda Khadka, the chief of Likhu Tamakoshi rural municipality, has been arrested on the charge of abduction and hostage-taking. “A complaint was filed saying he held Darpan Ghising, a member of the user committee, and forcing him to sign on a cheque.”

Khadka was elected to the top position on behalf of the then CPN-UML in the 2017 polls. However, his membership in the Nepal Communist Party, formed after the UML’s merger with the CPN-Maoist Centre, has remained suspended for now.
