Families of those killed and injured in the Ramechhap bus accident have blocked roads, urging bus operators and officials of the Araniko Transport Service Committee to come into contact and address their demands.
Relatives of the victims staged a road blockade near Manthali Hospital in Manthali, Ramechhap. Protesters obstructed traffic by placing a tipper truck across the road near Bhutyaha Khola in Manthali Municipality–2.
As a result, buses travelling from Ramechhap to Kathmandu and from Kathmandu to Ramechhap and various parts of Okhaldhunga have been halted mid-route and have been unable to reach their destinations.
The families of those killed and injured demanded that bus operators and transport committee officials contact them, provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved families, and ensure proper treatment for the injured.
They have also stated that they will not receive the bodies of the 12 deceased victims until their compensation demands are fulfilled.
Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa said that an all-party meeting is currently being held at the District Administration Office in Ramechhap to resolve the issue.
The accident claimed the lives of 12 people, including bus owner Dipesh Basnet of Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality–4 and his nephew Dipendra Basnet, as well as four members of the same family from Tilpung in Ward No. 7 of the same rural municipality.
