Biratnagar, November 2
Rajendra Rai of the CPN-Unified Socialist has been appointed the chief minister of Province 1 on Tuesday. Governor (Province Chief) Som Nath Adhikari ‘Pyasi’ appointed him to the position.
Earlier on Monday, Rai had staked his claim to the position with proof that 49 lawmakers in the 92-member Provincial Assembly have supported him for the position.
The position had turned vacant after incumbent Bhim Acharya submitted his resignation on Monday itself as it was certain that he would fail to achieve majority votes in the assembly during the vote of confidence scheduled for the same day.
Meanwhile, Pyasi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister Rai today itself.
Rai formed his cabinet consisting of leaders of the coalition parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal. Four ministers of his cabinet were also sworn in today.
