Kathmandu, November 1

Province 1 is likely to get Rajendra Rai its new chief minister on Tuesday. The position is vacant after incumbent Bhim Acharya announced his resignation from the position earlier this afternoon.

After accepting the resignation from Acharya, Governor (Province Chief) Somnath Adhikari Pyasi has called political parties in the Provincial Assembly to form an alliance and stake a claim to the position with evidence that the nominee will receive majority votes in the assembly.

The parties had been asked to stake the claim by 1 pm on Tuesday, as per article 168(2) of the constitution. But, the alliance consisting of Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-Unified Socialist and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal have claimed the position for Rajendra Rai of the Unified Socialist as the chief minister today itself.

They have collected signatures of 49 lawmakers from the 92-member assembly.

It is highly likely that Rai will be appointed the chief minister on Tuesday after the expiry of the time given by the governor.
