Kathmandu, February 5

Mountainous and hilly districts in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces have reported snowfall and rainfall from Thursday night.

This change in the weather is likely to spread further eastward–to other provinces of the country, according to meteorologists.

The latest winter rainfall is expected to bring warmer days ahead. However, as of Friday, higher districts in Karnali even experienced the fall of the temperatures below the freezing point.

Consequently, daily life has been hit hard. For example, people in Humla have been unable to go to shops to buy daily essentials whereas schools have been closed. Government and non-government offices have worn a deserted look.

Farmers, however, are happy as they hope this will give advantages to winter crops such as wheat and barley. Man Bahadur Aidi, a farmer in Sarkegad rural municipality-6 of Humla says the farmers were worried for want of rainfall over the past few months, and the recent change is a relief.
