Surkhet, October 29

Rain and snowfall are likely in various parts of the country, including the mountain districts of Karnali Province, due to the influence of Cyclone Arnab and westerly winds. The public has been urged to remain cautious.

The Weather and Climate Science Office in Surkhet has asked people to take precautions, saying that the weather may be affected from October 29 to 31.

According to the office, all districts of Karnali Province except Surkhet, Salyan, Dailekh and West Rukum may feel the effects of the weather on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, rain and snowfall are forecast across the country.

In view of the possible change in weather, residents of Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Jumla, Kalikot, Jajarkot and Dailekh, among other districts, have been asked to stay especially alert. The office has also urged people to follow weather updates regularly.

Risk of landslides, floods and avalanches

The expected rainfall could bring a risk of landslides, floods, and mud and debris flows. In the mountain areas, snowstorms and avalanches may also occur, so people have been urged to take special care.

People have been asked to avoid travelling in the mountain areas where possible. Those who must travel have been asked to proceed only after checking the weather conditions. Anyone using risky roads and trekking routes in the mountain and hill areas should pay particular attention to the forecast.

Caution urged during paddy harvest

With the paddy harvest season underway, farmers have also been asked to check the weather before cutting and bringing in their crops.

Paddy that has been cut and left in the fields could get wet in the rain and be damaged. Farmers should therefore plan their harvesting and storage according to the forecast.

District administrations also urge caution

Considering the possible weather risks, Chief District Officers of the mountain and hill districts of Karnali have issued notices urging people to travel with care.

Dolpa Chief District Officer Junu Hamal said people have been asked to travel carefully, keeping the weather conditions in mind.

The District Administration Office in Humla has also issued a notice asking people to set out on journeys only after checking the weather forecast.

To avoid the possible risks, residents, farmers and travellers need to check the official forecast regularly and take special care in risky locations.
