Put impeachment motion to vote immediately if no withdrawal: Oli to Dahal

Kathmandu, May 4

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has requested Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to put the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki to vote as soon as possible if the proposal would not be withdrawn.

In a meeting held in Singhadarbar in a bid to find solutions to complexities surrounding the two phases of local level elections, the main opposition leader said the motion could not be left pending in Parliament as CJ Karki is retiring next month.

“The UML said a decision should be taken immediately and it should not be left stuck in any prolonged discussion,” a source privy to the conversation informed Onlinekhabar.

Earlier, Oli had asked  Dahal to withdraw the motion, upon which Dahal said he would not take the decision alone as the motion was jointly filed by Maoist and Nepali Congress lawmakers.

Then, the UML had demanded that the date of voting on the motion be fixed before the Parliament meeting this afternoon.

Claiming that not taking any decision on the motion before Karki’s retirement would be maleficient, the UML warned it would not allow discussions in House over the issue if it was not settled at the earliest.
