‘Protesting’ transporters consult govt through backdoor for company registration

Many organisations representing public transport entrepreneurs have recently announced to launch an indefinite strike next month against the government decision to scrap the registration of their committees as NGOs.

As the government has now required them to get registered as profit-making companies, the organisations have warned of stopping their services.

However, two days after the government decision, it has now been found that some key transporters have already begun consulting the Office of Company Registrar to get ideas about how they can do business in the new context.

Araniko Yatayat Sewa Samiti, which had been monopolising public transport along the Araniko Highway till few weeks back, for example, has already booked a name for its registration as a profit-marking company, according to a source at the Office. The company law has it that the companies booking a name has to file all documents for registration in next 35 days.

Deputy Registrar at the Office, Rajendra Thapa, hopes that more entrepreneurs will consult his Office in the upcoming days.

The Samiti’s Chairman Shyam Lama, however, is not ready to accept it now.

“We will not register our company immediately,” he says, “First, we will resort to the protest. If it does not work, we will think of other options.”
