Kathmandu, June 1
Public transport operators staged a protest in Kathmandu on Sunday. They demonstrated along the Maitighar–Baneshwor road section after announcing a nationwide movement in response to the Gandaki Province government’s decision to issue regulations for the operation and regulation of ride-sharing and self-drive services.
Claiming that allowing two-wheelers and four-wheelers to transport passengers like public vehicles has put their investments at risk, the operators—who had halted public transport services in Gandaki on Friday—took to the streets of Kathmandu.
The demonstration, which blocked the roads, disrupted transportation across the Kathmandu Valley. Additionally, another protest by royalists in the Naxal–Bhatbhateni area further worsened the traffic situation.
