Chitwan, November 17
Locals of Ichchhakamana rural municipality in Chitwan district obstructed the Prithvi Highway, the busiest route to come to Kathmandu from most of the districts, staging a protest.
The locals resorted to the protest after a local youth reportedly died in police detention. Whereas police have claimed he fatally fell off a cliff in his bid to run away from the custody, the locals have suspected that police tortured him to death.
The Muglin Area Police Office says the road is obstructed since 12 pm today. A spokesperson at the District Police Office, Ek Narayan Koirala, says efforts are underway to convince the locals and resume the transportation.
Earlier on Saturday night, Ram Kandel, 28, was arrested after a local woman complained that Kandel misbehaved with her. He was kept at Phisling Temporary Police Post.
Kandel’s body has been kept at the Bharatpur Hospital currently.
