Press Council Nepal has directed ABC Television to apologise to the public over its interview with CK Raut, a divisive political figure.

PCN’s code of conduct monitoring sub-committee issued this directive to ABC on Thursday.

Referring to the March 30 interview broadcast on the ABC Watch programme, PCN said the conversation not only harmed Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and social harmony, but also violated code of conduct applicable to journalists.

In the wake of a mounting protest against the interview, PCN had directed ABC to furnish a written clarification within three days.

ABC, in its response, had said the interviewer himself should be accountable for his remarks. PCN rejected ABC’s reply that it should have the right to broadcast even those contents that are considered unpalatable.
