President sacks Province 2 Governor Pariyar, replaces with Jha

Kathmandu, February 19

In an apparent effect of the recent split seen in the ruling Nepal Communist Party, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has sacked Province 2 Governor (Province Chief) Tilak Pariyar from his position.

Pariyar, who was active in the Maoists party in the past was appointed to the top provincial position in November 2019. He is believed to be close to Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who has parted his ways from the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led party.

The President’s Office says Pariyar was removed from the position upon a recommendation from the cabinet.

The article 165 of the constitution has it that the province chief (governor) loses the position if the president removes him/her prior to completing the term.

Rajesh Jha appointed

Rajesh Jha is also known as Rajesh Ahiraj.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Jha of Rautahat has been appointed in the vacant position, according to another statement from the President’s Office.

Rajesh Jha alias Rajesh Ahiraj is known for his political commentaries about the Madhes region of Nepal.
