Kathmandu, March 4
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has administered the oath of office and secrecy to the senior-most MPs of both Houses of Parliament.
At a programme organised at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, Mp Mahanata Thakur, the senior-most MP in the lower House, took the oath of office and secrecy in his mother tongue Maithali while Tara Devi Bhatta, the senior-most MP in the upper House took the oath in Nepali. Thakur is 75 Bhatta is 69.
Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli, ministers, Chiefs of constitutional bodies and security bodies were also present at the ceremony.
As per Articles 91 (5) and 92 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2072, the senior-most member chairs the meeting of the House of Representative until the Speaker (lower House) and Chair (upper House) are elected. Thakur is scheduled to administer the oath of office and secrecy to 275 members of House of Representatives at the Federal Parliament Building and Bhatta to 59 NA members, later today.
