15.1 per cent population below poverty line in Nepal

Kathmandu, May 28

Over 15 per cent of Nepal’s population is below the poverty line.

According to the Economic Survey 2022/23, 15.1 per cent of the population is below the poverty line, and a majority of them living in rural areas of the country.

This is an improvement from 2018/19 when 17.4 per cent of the population was below the poverty line.

The survey said 28 per cent of the population in rural areas was experiencing multidimensional poverty.

In urban areas, that ratio was low as 12.3 per cent of the population faced multidimensional poverty.

In Karnali, 39.5 per cent of the population faced multidimensional poverty while in Bagmati, only 7 per cent of the population faced multidimensional poverty.
