Kathmandu, August 14

An undisclosed number of police police personnel and Nepal Student Union activists sustained injuries at Nepali Congress party office in Sanepa on Sunday as the dispute within the Nepali Congress over the NSU general convention’s election process took an ugly turn.

A police officer sustained head injuries in the clash that ensued when supporters of the Ram Chandra Poudel camp shouted slogans demanding removal of fake NSU GC representatives from the list. The Poudel camp has urged NC leadership to put the election process on hold pointing at inclusion of fake GC representatives in the list, giving rise to a dispute at a time when the party is gearing up for the election.

After the clash, police have stepped up security in and around the NC office in Sanepa.

Pointing at heavy presence of security personnel, Dipak Bhattarai, an NSU leader, said: It’s difficult to distinguish whether it’s our party office or a police office.

He said security personnel are barring even NSU cadres like him from entering the party office.

After nine years, the Congress managed to hold NSU’s 11th general convention last week. But its closed session is yet to begin due to a dispute over GC representatives.
