Nepal Police celebrated Kukur Tihar on Monday by worshipping its trained dogs at the Canine Office in Maharajgunj.
Unlike in previous years when the festival was observed with much fanfare, this year’s celebration was held in a low-key manner. The police headquarters had instructed all units to keep programs simple, citing security concerns following the recent Gen-Z movement, which had resulted in significant damage to police property and offices across the country.
Among the dogs deployed in criminal investigations, Ghungroo was declared the best-performing dog this year. The dog received a medal, while its handler was awarded a certificate.
Ghungroo had assisted in uncovering a marijuana smuggling operation through Tribhuvan International Airport. The operation revealed that Nepal was being used as a transit route to smuggle marijuana to third countries.
