Pokhara locals obstruct Covid-19 victim’s body burial

Locals of Pokhara on Thursday obstructed officials’ efforts to bury the body of a man who died of Covid-19 recently in their locality.

As an excavator began digging a pit to bury the body near Setighat, Gagangaunda, Pokhara-32, the locals resorted to protest and burned tyres.

Recently, a person from Syangja had died of coronavirus infection at Paschimanchal Regional Hospital. The army personnel were preparing to take the body to the site this morning.

Meanwhile, the locals also clashed with police who wanted to disperse the protesting mob. Two law-enforcers and 10 local sustained injuries whereas police arrested eight during the clash, according to Kaski District Police Office spokesperson Subas Hamal.

Police had also opened some rounds of fire in the air to take the situation under control and bury the body.
