PM says dates for provincial, federal polls will be announced soon

Kathmandu, July 21

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said dates for provincial and federal elections will be announced soon.

Addressing a programme organised to commemorate the 35th memorial day of NC leader BP Koirala today, PM Deuba underlined the need of conducting all the three levels of elections within the time frame stipulated by the constitution.

“The Constituency Delineation Commission has been constituted on Thursday for the state and federal elections,” he said, adding that two phases of the local level elections had already been held while the third phase local election for Province 2 would be held on September 18.

He was of the view that the federal democratic republic would be stabilised only after thee timely elections.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba honoured party leader Chakra Prasad Bastola with the ‘Loktantrik Yodhdha (Democratic Fighter)’ title and a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Bastola is currently in a semi-conscious state. His spouse, Kusum Bastola, received the award on behalf of her bed-ridden husband.

A special publication entitled ‘Chintan’ dedicated to former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was also released on the occasion.
