Kathmandu, October 2
Nepali Congress former president Sher Bahadur Deuba has been selected as a regional representative to the 15th general convention from the establishment-outside group.
He was unanimously selected as regional representative at the ward convention of the Congress establishment-outside group held in his home district of Dadeldhura, in Ganyapadhura Rural Municipality-1.
Ward chair Padam Mahata announced that former president Deuba had been unanimously selected as regional representative.
The Deuba group is preparing to hold its 15th general convention under the statute of the 14th general convention. That statute provides that Central Working Committee office-bearers and members automatically become convention representatives.
However, Deuba has instead sought to win a regional representative seat from the ward level through electoral competition, rather than arriving as a convention representative automatically.
According to Ramesh Rawal, a leader from Ganyapadhura-1, Deuba had given a power of attorney to local Kaushila Devi Deuba to file his candidacy for regional representative.
Former president Deuba has, in past conventions as well, been among the leaders who have competed from the ward level.
Deuba’s personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, was also selected as a regional representative from the Ganyapadhura-1 ward convention.
He had given a power of attorney to local Indra Bahadur Deuba. Kaushila Devi is related to Deuba as his younger brother’s wife, and Indra Bahadur is his uncle.
