Platinum College chair arrested over gold smuggling case

Kathmandu, February 26

A chairperson of a college has been arrested in connection with a gold smuggling case.

A team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Monday arrested Jeewan Kumar Gurung, Chairperson of Platinum College based in Dillibazaar of Kathmandu.

CIB Spokesperson and SP Hobindra Bogati said Gurung was arrested from Samakhusi. In the course of the investigation, he was found to be one of the masterminds being the 14-kilogram gold smuggling case.

“Gurung was at large after an arrest warrant was issued against him in connection with the smuggling of 14 kg gold from Dubai”, SP Bogati said.

The police have arrested him today, he said, adding preparation is on to hand him to the Department of Customs.
