People stranded without food and water after Karnali Highway landslide

Surkhet, April 7

Landslides and floods have taken a heavy toll on parts of the Karnali Highway after heavy rainfall on Saturday night.

Landslides have occurred in Dullu Municipality of Dailekh and Shubh Kalika Rural Municipality of Kalikot, leaving many stranded and without drinking water.

People have been stranded for two days due to delay in clearing the debris.

The excavator had been sent to the landslide site on early Saturday, but it could not reach the place on time. Hence, people have been left waiting for help as the spot doesn’t have clean drinking water nor does it have a place to eat food.

Kalikot’s Chief District Officwer Chandra Bahadur Karki says the landslide has not been cleared due to the continuous rainfall.

He also adds that the landslides are still occurring in the area and that has made it difficult to clear the debris on time.

Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed to clear the highway.
