Birgunj, November 18

A forest patrol team and alleged smugglers exchanged fire in a forest in Parsa district of southern Nepal. The alleged smugglers were supplying wooden logs from a national forest protected under the Subdivision Forest Office.

The office in Badhnihar of the district says it had deployed a patrol team after receiving a tip-off about smuggling activities. In the beginning, the smugglers opened fire immediately after seeing the patrol team, the office chief Rajeshwar Man Shrestha says.

In response, the patrol team also opened two rounds of fire.

Meanwhile, the team confiscated wooden logs, four bicycles used in the transport and four axes, according to the office. The suspects, however, fleed the scene.
