The number of people suffering from seasonal flu is found to be increasing in the districts of Koshi Province. Patients of cold-related ailments have been increasing with the dip in temperature in the districts, doctors said. Senior Physician of Koshi Hospital, Dr Roshan Khadka, said the number of patients has increased lately after the severe cold.

It is said that the biting cold creates imbalances in body temperature and impacts the blood circulation in the human body as well. “The blood vessels get shrink as the body temperature lowers in winter. This reduces blood supply to the head, resulting in a continuous headache,” Dr Khadka said. One of the main reasons behind the headache during the winter is dehydration in the human body, Dr Khadka added.

Similarly, the children develop sore eyes, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat, breathing problems, and diarrhoea with the weather changes. Seasonal influenza is a type of virus infection, it is also called flu, and is transmitted through breathing. The flu affects the elderly, chronically ill, malnourished children, diabetic patients, high blood pressure and heart patients who are on regular medication. Doctors suggest that it is advisable to get vaccinated against influenza to avoid various types of viral infection.
