Passengers protest as TIA stops domestic flight during Oli’s return

Passengers of a flight come out of the aircraft and stage a protest after their flight was stopped owing to the flight of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in Kathmandu, on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

Kathmandu, October 27

Passengers of a flight preparing to fly to Bhadrapur of Jhapa district resorted to a protest at the domestic terminal of the Tribhuvan International Airport after their flight was stopped after the boarding was already over.

The TIA administration had stopped the Shree Airlines’ flight SHA 941 as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was about to land at the airport. Oli was returning home after attending the 28th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku of Azerbaijan last week.

Later the airport administration contained the protest with the help of police.

Meanwhile, the airport claims the incident was normal. The airport’s spokesperson Pratap Babu Tiwari says the airport administration had already issued a notice about the flight obstruction during the VVIP movement, but the passengers resorted to the protest.

This, however, is not the first time that the flights have been stopped during VVIP movements.
