Pant murder probe: Police await DNA reports of two suspects

Kathmandu, December 9

Police say they have sent DNA samples of two persons who were recently arrested in connection with the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur district five months ago.

Reports of their DNA examinations will be out by Sunday evening, police say, adding the documents will inform it they were involved in the incident.

Some investigators have already claimed that the new suspects, Pradeep Rawal and Bishal Chaudhary, confessed to the crime. Hence, police are hopeful that the investigation would be over soon.

Inspector General Sarbendra Khanal himself had interrogated them.

“After the arrival of reports, we have to send them to Kanchanpur so as to maintain the chain of custody,” a source at the Central Investigation Bureau says, “But, we are also discussing if we can open the report after getting approval from the district.”

Meanwhile, police have said they are still searching for a missing suspect.
