The main opposition leader and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said the government’s decision to defer local level elections in Province 2 is a conspiracy.

He also feared that the government would not have sufficient time to do provincial and federal polls by January 21, 2018 as required by the constitution.

Welcoming the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal treasurer Anita Yadav to his party today, the former Prime Minister said the government should not have postponed the polls till September 18 as the agitating RJPN had not yet agreed to participate in the elections.

Suspecting that the government was planning to increase the number of local levels in Province 2 as demanded by the RJPN, he said it would be unconstitutional and illegal to increase the number in a province only after conducting the polls in six other provinces.

Meanwhile, Oli reiterated that his party would not block the constitution promulgation if the government justified the proposal.

He also expressed his confidence that the UML would improve its performance in the second phase of local level elections.
