Kathmandu, December 21

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli says the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and announce fresh dates for the mid-term elections was not a choice but a compulsion.

The prime minister, who currently leads the minority faction of the Nepal Communist Party, says the other faction blocked the government’s plan, forcing him to call for fresh mandates.

A day after the decision that has brought a division in the party, Oli summoned members of the dissolved House at his official residence in Baluwatar and tried to justify his move.

He said the other faction plotted various conspiracies to fail the government in cahoots with national and international forces.

Responding to the majority members’ decision to take action against him, Oli said he was still the chairman of the party and the parliamentary party leader, suggesting any meeting without him cannot be legitimate.

Oli said he would call meetings of the central committee and parliamentary party soon.

He even said Pushpa Kamal Dahal was given the status of the chairman of the party formed after the merger between the then CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre only because he was not happy as the vice-chairman.
