Oli in Parliament: Government is as anarchic as wild elephant

Kathmandu, April 24

The main opposition leader and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has likened the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government to a wild elephant, claiming it failed to respect the rule of law.

Speaking in Parliament meeting on Monday afternoon, the former Prime Minister said, “Democracy does not mean anarchy. But this government knows neither democracy nor law.”

Objecting to the arrest of DIG Nawaraj Silwal from his lawyer’s home this morning, Oli said, “What do you do to members of the public when you arrest a sitting DIG without any warrant unlawfully?”

“This government is just like the Dhrube Hatti,” Oli said, recalling the destructive activities of the wild elephant, which was detained and killed a few years ago.

‘Constitution amendment unacceptable’

Meanwhile, Oli has said his party cannot accept the constitution amendment bill the government has registered in Parliament, claiming it is “dangerous” to the nation.

In particular, he objected to the proposal that consent of the provinces would not be necessary to change the boundaries of the provinces.

He also complained that the main opposition was not consulted about the amendment proposal.

Oli also informed House that hat the second-phase elections were acceptable to his party, but they should be held before the budget announcement for next fiscal.

Just this morning, the party’s Standing Committee meeting had made the similar decision.

Likewise, the constitutional provision of presenting the budget on May 29 should not be changed, he stressed.
