Kathmandu, January 19

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has called a meeting of its secretariat for a discussion on the party’s official candidate for the election of the speaker. The meeting was called after a one-on-one conversation between its two chairmen, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

A party leader says the secretariat will discuss the issue at a meeting called for 4 pm today.

The House of Representatives has not been able to elect its speaker since the beginning of the new session around one month ago owing to the indecision of the ruling party that commands decisive votes required to elect the top official. The two chairpersons are reportedly divided over the party’s candidate.
