Oli Cabinet expansion: Forum Nepal seeks clear stance on constitution amendment

Kathmandu, March 18

The Upendra Yadav-led Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal has demanded the UML clarify its stance on the issue of constitution amendment. The pary has also said it will join the Cabinet only after a written agreement is signed to address pertinent political issues.

A meeting of the party’s office bearers on Monday decided to talks with senior leaders of the UML. A Forum Nepal leader says, “The UML has said it was ready to amend the constitution as per the need of the country. We want the UML to clearly define what it is referring to.”

Sources say that Yadav sought the ‘clarification’ to show rivals RJP that the party is not surrendering its agenda by joining the Oli Cabinet. It is learnt that Yadav wants Oli’s commitment to amend Article 274 of the constitution to make it easier to change provincial boundaries.

The UML has already agreed to induct two ministers and two ministers of state into the Oli Cabinet. Upendra Yadav himself wants to become minister. He wants to the senior-most Deputy Prime Minister post.
