Oli Cabinet decided to send agreemo of proposed envoys to host countries sans House hearing

It has become clear that the KP Sharma Oli-headed Council of Ministers had decided to send agreemo of proposed ambassadors to host countries for their consent without conducting a hearing on the candidates at the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, in the middle of efforts to topple the Oli government.

At Monday’s meeting of the committee, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi and Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi accepted that the government had decided to send agreemo to the host countries. They asked the committee to get the details from Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

At the meeting, Subedi pointed at his limited as Chief Secretary and said: All I have to do is write down the decisions.

Bairagi said it is his duty to follow the directives of Foreign Minister, adding that he had sent a proposal to this effect at the Council of Ministers as per FM’s directives.

Bairagi said they have not sent the agreemo to host countries keeping in mind the country’s latest political situation.

The CPN-UML-led government had prepared a name list of ambassadors for 21 countries. The list basically consists of candidates, who are close to certain political parties. Their hearing is yet to take place.

Amid preparations to topple the Oli government, the Cabinet had decided to send the names to host countries for approval without conducting a parliamentary hearing.
