Kathmandu, October 18

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the umbrella organisation of the non-resident Nepalis residing across the globe, has decided to hold the elections to elect the new executive committee by November 30 this year.

Last week, the general convention, in which the elections would also be held, scheduled for October 23-25, had been postponed indefinitely owing to the interference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and internal disputes in the organisation.

But, now, a virtual meeting of the organisation’s executive committee meeting decided to complete the elections by November 30 whereas it also extended the term of the existing committee by six months, according to NRNA Vice-president Badri KC.

The convention to be held this weekend in Kathmandu was expected to elect new leadership for the organisation. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently had directed the NRNA to halt the election procedure after it received complaints of irregularities in the selection of convention delegates.
