Kathmandu, September 13

Owing to complaints it received about irregularities in the selection of delegates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Non-resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to hold all works related to the election of its new executive committee.

The umbrella organisation of non-resident Nepalis was preparing for the elections of its new executive committee on October 23-25.

But, the ministry says it has formed an investigation committee to look into the complaints and the organisation cannot prepare for the convention unless the team submits its report.

It has been learned that the NRN leaders supporting Kul Acharya, who is preparing to vie for the president of the organisation, had filed complaints claiming the NRNA President Kumar Panta and others close to him selected delegates in a biased way in different countries.

Meanwhile, the NRNA says it will immediately hold talks with the government over the issue so as to not delay the elections. NRNA General Secretary Hem Raj Sharma says President Panta will go to Kathmandu soon for the talks.
