NRNA general convention postponed, finally

Barcelona, October 11

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the umbrella organisation of the non-resident Nepalis residing across the globe, has finally decided to postpone its 10th general convention indefinitely.

The convention to be held on October 23-25 in Kathmandu was expected to elect new leadership for the organisation. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently had directed the NRNA to halt the election procedure after it received complaints of irregularities in the selection of convention delegates.

A virtual meeting of the NRNA international executive secretariat held on Sunday decided to postpone the meeting, informs Hem Raj Sharma, the NRNA general secretary.

A meeting of the organisation’s international coordination council will make a decision about the next dates for the convention, informs Sharma. However, the secretariat members have agreed to extend the term of the current leadership by six months, and the coordination council is likely to endorse that agreement, according to Sharma.
