No reason to prevent new reconstruction authority CEO Pokharel from doing his work, says Supreme Court

Kathmandu, February 14

The Supreme Court made it clear on Tuesday there’s no need to bar newly-appointed chief executive officer of the National Reconstruction Authority, Govinda Raj Pokharel, from discharging his duties just because his predecessor has challenged his appointment in the court.

A division bench of justices Jagdish Sharma Poudel and Hari Krishna Karki said there’s no reason why Pokharel should be barred from doing his work as NRA CEO. Still, the court has said the writ against Pokharel’s appointment, which his predecessor Sushil Gewali has filed, should be on priority list. The court had also refused to issue an interim order against Pokharel’s appointment after an initial hearing on the writ.

This means Pokharel will continue to be NRA CEO, at least until the court issues its final verdict on the writ.
