Kathmandu, July 28

Nepal’s new Constitution has incorporated fundamental rights of all Nepalis, so there’s no need to rewrite it, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, chief judge at the Patan Appellate Court, said on Thursday.

Bhattarai, proposed for the position of Supreme Court justice, said this during a hearing that Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had conducted.

Bhattarai said the Charter can undergo gradual amendment.

Responding to a query form Yogendra Chaudhary, a lawmaker from the Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic, Bhattarai said: I have not described this Constitution as the best. But this Charter has incorporated the rights of all. There’s no need to rewrite it, for it can undergo amendment in due course of time.

He further said: The Parliament should help weaken the influence of middle-men in the court by assisting in the establishment of several proposed courts.

On Thursday itself, the PHSC conducted a hearing on another candidate for SC justice’s position, senior advocate Anil Kumar Sinha.
